Fort Langley National Historic Site is a Parks Canada site on the banks of the Fraser River. It was a Hudson’s Bay Company fur trading post, and the rough-hewn timber buildings behind the palisades recreate life in the 1800s. Parks Canada says visitors can meet costumed interpreters, try hands-on demonstrations and look at cultural artifacts. It is in the village of Fort Langley, which is part of the Township of Langley (see City vs. Township).

Plan your visit

Parks Canada keeps the hours and fees pages up to date, so use those for anything you’d plan around, including closures. It also posts visitor notices on the main page when parts of the site are closed. When we checked, the bastions and upper gallery were closed for preventative conservation, while the rest of the site was open.

Parking and getting around

  • The large lot at the end of Mavis Avenue is managed by EasyPark. You can pay at the pay station or with a mobile parking app.
  • Parking is free for up to four hours for site visitors. After you buy your entry ticket, you register your vehicle at the Visitor Centre.
  • Picnic areas, including a covered shelter and open grassy areas, are near the parking lot.

Accessibility

Parks Canada lists accessible washrooms in the Visitor Centre, a paved pathway connecting the historic buildings (with some gradients up to 8.5%), benches throughout the site, and access ramps on all buildings. There are two accessible picnic tables near the lot, and a manually operated wheelchair can be borrowed from the Visitor Centre. See the facilities page for more.

Good to know

  • The Visitor Centre has exhibits and information. Its gift shop, Spirit Bear Designs, is Indigenous-owned and sells arts and crafts by local Indigenous artists. Parks Canada lists daily hours of 11 am to 4 pm, “subject to change”.
  • Pets are allowed outside the fort walls on a leash. They are not allowed inside the fort walls, the Visitor Centre or the historic buildings.
  • Services are available in English and French, and there’s a site orientation map in several other languages.
